Configuring Bar Charts

Bar charts provide options that allow you to expand on the capabilities of pie charts to take things to the next level.

Note: this tutorial will show you how to from using a blank template; the actions will apply if you're adding a block to an existing report or template

 
  1. From edit mode, select +
     
  1. Select Bar Chart
     
  1. Now select to add your data source. The data source will provide a different way of grouping information from the system. Select OK.

Note: follow along with Advanced Data Source Topics for further information

 
  1. Select OK
     
  1. Select Group By to determine how you will be grouping your data
     
  1. Name your series
     

Note: Naming your series is important if you plan to add more than one series to this particular chart for comparison

 
  1. Select the color for your chart
     
  1. Adjust your Aggregation if you so choose
     
  1. Select OK to add the bar chart.
     
  1. Update your report parameters and select Refresh; you may also want to resize your chart for a better visual
     
  1. If you'd like to edit your chart, select it's menu item, then select Edit
     
  1. If you'd like to change the legend position or the chart axis you are able, select the appropriate option.
     
  1. Select OK to save those changes
     
  1. You will now be able to review the changes you've made
     
  1. To add more dimension, for example: If you want to compare the number of encounters for a concussion vs all other encounters. Navigate back to the menu for your chart and select Edit again
     
  1. Apply a filter for your first series, select the filter icon
     
  1. Set your filter
     
  1. Select OK
     
  1. Now, rename your series to reflect the filter
     
  1. Now, add an additional series by selecting +
     
  1. Add the opposite filter to this series as you had the previous
     
  1. Select OK
     
  1. Name your series to reflect the filter applied
     
  1. Select a color
     
  1. Select OK
     
  1. Select Refresh to update your chart
     
  1. Bar charts show side-by-side, but a stacked bar chart is sometimes helpful if you are attempting to compare how much of a total each series contributes. To change to a stacked chart, select the charts menu icon, and select edit
     
  1. Select Stacked
     
  1. Select OK
     
  1. Refresh your parameters in order to view the changes
