Sway - Tips for a Successful Test Session

Before starting a Sway test, a few quick checks can prevent the most common issues and ensure test results are captured and synced without interruption.

1. Use a Compatible Device

Make sure the device being used to administer or take a Sway test is supported. Using an unsupported or outdated device may cause unexpected behavior during testing.

✅ Recommended: Use a supported iOS or Android mobile device with the Sway app installed.
❌ Not recommended: Outdated operating systems or devices that no longer receive software updates.

2. Keep Your App Up to Date

Always make sure you're running the latest version of the Sway app before beginning a test session. Outdated versions may have bugs that have since been resolved and could affect test performance or syncing.

How to update:

  • iOS: Open the App Store → Search "Sway" → Tap "Update" if available
  • Android: Open the Google Play Store → Search "Sway" → Tap "Update" if available

3. Confirm a Stable Internet Connection

A stable internet connection is required for test results to sync properly to the Sway platform. Before beginning:

  • Connect to a reliable Wi-Fi network or confirm strong cellular signal
  • Avoid starting a test in areas with known connectivity issues (e.g., locker rooms, basements, remote fields)
  • If possible, test your connection before the session begins

4. What Happens If Your Connection Is Lost During a Test?

If there is a disruption in internet connectivity during or after a test, don't worry — Sway has a built-in safety net. You will be presented with a Test Recovery screen with two options:

Option A: Retry Sync

If internet connection has been restored, tap "Retry Sync" to attempt to re-upload the test results. You can retry an unlimited number of times.

  • ✅ If successful: You'll see a confirmation that the test was successfully uploaded. Tap "Close" to return to the home screen.
  • ❌ If unsuccessful: You'll be given the option to download a Recovery File (see Option B below).

You can also exit the test by tapping "Back" → "Cancel." An orange banner will appear at the top of your login screen — tap it to retry syncing once your connection improves.

Option B: Download a Recovery File

If syncing continues to fail, tap "File" to download a Recovery File to the device. This file preserves all test data so it isn't lost.

Next steps with a Recovery File:

  1. Share the Recovery File from the device via email to the Test Administrator
  2. The Test Administrator should forward it to support@swaymedical.com
  3. A Sway Customer Support team member will confirm receipt and manually upload the data to the correct profile
  4. You'll receive a follow-up email confirming the data was successfully uploaded
