We adjust the baseline start date in Sway to control which assessments are included in an athlete’s baseline. This is useful after RTP to exclude pre-injury baselines, and to include valid assessments that were accidentally recorded as non-baseline tests. This action may be completed on individual profiles or if you'd rather with all profiles in the group.
Why you may adjust the baseline start date:

After a concussion + RTP:
If an athlete completes RTP and then takes a new baseline, you don’t want Sway averaging in their old, pre-injury baselines. Adjusting the baseline start date ensures only the post-RTP baseline(s) are used as their new “normal.” This keeps post-injury comparisons accurate and clinically meaningful. -
When a baseline was taken incorrectly as a plain assessment:
If someone accidentally records what should’ve been a baseline as a regular assessment, adjusting the baseline start date can allow that test (and others after that date) to be included in the baseline calculation — even though it wasn’t originally flagged as a baseline. This helps “rescue” good data without having to retest the athlete. -
When it's been 6 months since the last baseline test:
When it has been 6 months since the last baseline test, the baseline start date will automatically adjust when a new baseline is completed. If the previous baseline has not yet met the 6-month requirement, manually adjusting the baseline start date will take previous baselines and their dates into consideration so they can be included appropriately.

Step-By-Step Tutorial: Portal
- Search for and click the profile you would like to adjust the baseline start date for.
- Beside the profile's Name, there are three icons: a pencil, a trash can, and a vertical ellipsis. Click on the vertical ellipsis.
- Select Adjust Baseline Start Date
- Select to Use all tests if desired
- Select to use tests starting from a specific date
- Select Save to apply changes
Step-By-Step Tutorial: App
- Search for and click the profile you would like to adjust
- Scroll down until a blue "Baseline Start Date" line appears. That line is adjustable just by touch and drag. Every baseline test above the line will be included in the baseline averages.
- Touch and drag the "Baseline Start Date" line to adjust where you would like the baseline calculations to start
- Click confirm to confirm the baseline adjustment changes
- You will see a faint "success" across your device's screen, and the adjustment should be visible.
